Style Talk
In the latest of our new series searching out Sydney's best dressed women, Insider heads to Parlour X boutique in Paddington to chat with owner Eva Galambos.
Galambos, known for her avant garde style, is one of the most impressively clad women in the city. Her Glenmore Rd boutique, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary next year, has a cult following.
Describe you style.
My look has changed over the past two years since having my daughter. It has become far more relaxed and effortless as my outfits are thrown together at speed.
Despite time constraints, I still maintain a distinct look that is edgy, sometimes quirky, with a playful twist - depending on how i feel on the day.
For the evening, I like to add a touch of glamour because i do love to dress up.
What's your biggest style mistake?
My friends called me "fluoro maniac" when i was 12 years old because for six months I wore a different shade of fluorescent socks every day. They were my trademark.
What's your favourite place in Sydney to shop?
Parlour X, of course! Bondi Markets for nick-nacks; Pyrmont Growers Market once a month for fresh organic produce; Fratelli Fresh for food, too.
What are your key wardrobe pieces?
At the top of my list is a tailored blazer, which is the perfect way to sharpen your look with a blouse and skinny jeans. Then I'd say low-crotch trousers, because they can be worn with a bohemian floaty blouse and they're so versatile depending on the fabric. Last, but not least, are wedged ankle boots, which are a great way to toughen up a contemporary outfit.
Who is your style icon?
I admire photographer Lee Miller's sense of style. She was so sophisticated and modern - a creative pioneer who mainly wore pants in the 1930s, which was highly controversial at the time. My favourite contemporary fashion identity is Alexa Chung, because her signature style is tailored casual while always looking naturally sexy.
