Sunday magazine - sunday telegraph Eva Galambos
Combining high-end fashion and fine art is more than a job for this boutique owner - it's a treasured lifestyle.
Fashion isnt always frivolous. For Eva Galambos owner of Sydney boutique Parlour X, its a chance to indulge her love of fine art while acting as the perfect hostess. "A parlour used to be a place where a hostess, trained in the arts & literature, entertained guests," she says, explaining that her gallery-style boutique is a place where high-end garments, from such labels like Viktor & Rolf, Hussein Chalayan & Roland Mouret, are considered works of art. And art is a consistent theme in Galambos' life. After completing a fine-art degree, her first job was as a guide and researcher at Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art. Today, Galambos sits on the MCA's Directors Working Circle committee and likes nothing better than spending her down time in the museum's hallowed halls. "I love going to openings or just popping in during the week when its quiet," she smiles. "It's great to cut off from the rest of the world and lose myself in the fabulous space."
"Travelling: London, Paris & occasionally New York. Thats where I head on buying trips. I purchase most of the brands from Paris, while London's my home away from home." "Rosie: She's my funny, too-cute French mastiff puppy. We're inseparable and i adore her, even when she eats my shoes." "Parlour X: I adore my business & i love working. I bounce out of bed each morning, excited just to get there. I love to be surrounded by beautiful things & Parlour X is an extension of that. I find artistic objects and put them together for other people to discover." "Glassware: I have been collecting glass vases, ashtrays, bowls, decanters and perfume bottles since i was a little girl. I began by scouting out markets and learning about glassmaking styles of Italy, Poland, Sweden & England. I love art deco, 50s and 70s shapes best." "Music: I have CDs everywhere: in my car, in the store and at home. I spend hours making playlist on my IPOD. At the moment im loving Akular by rapper/vocalist MIA." "Crystals: Ive always been fascinated by crystals - they're my grounding force. My favourite stones are rose quartz & citrine. I love to give them as gifts: I guess im a hippie at heart." "Books: I collect art books from every exhibition i visit. i also buy coffee-table books on fashion, photography, art & music. Recently i've bought David LaChapelle, Yohji Yamamoto & Tom Ford retrospectives. I'm forever referencing and re-reading old favourites." "Cheese: Its absolutely my favourite food, particularly goat's curd & pecorino. Im known for my cheese platters. Almost everything i eat has a bit of cheese in it." "Wine Club: Last year, 11 of my fabulous female friends & i created a wine club. We drink & laugh - while broadening our knowledge of grapes, of course. I'm enjoying Turkey Flat Barossa Valley Rose at the moment." "Korner Skincare: This range is incredible. The lightness & consistency is amazing - i like the Day Cream in particular. I also like that it's not so well known." "Pillow collection: I often reinvent the feel of my home by moving around my cushions, from Turkish oversize pillows to six-pieces woven-suede set from Cambodia."
