X FACTOR

AWASH WITH LIGHT THIS BEACHSIDE HOME IS AS STYLISH AS ITS FASHIONISTA OWNER.

WHO LIVES HERE
Eva Galambos. 30-something, owner and buyer for Parlour X boutique in Sydney's Paddington, lives in this three bedroom cottage in North Bondi with her beloved two-year-old French mastiff, Rosie. In fact, Eva has lived much of her life in this beachside suburb. "I grew up in Bondi," she says. "This house is just a street away from my childhood home."
Apart from the memories and appeal, she says the suburb thrives on a lifestyle and creative level. "I love the fact that the beach is in walking distance," she says. "I walk Rosie to the beach every day and just stare out into the ocean; I love the tranquility of the water and the vastness of nature."
Eva says she is also inspired by the energy and people. " If you think about it, Bondi is to Sydney what the Marais is to Paris or what Soho is to New York; It's where creative people, such as actors, artists and designers flock,' she explains.

COOL COLLECTABLES
"Yes, I am obsessed with collecting!' Eva says. She has a vast array of chandeliers, perfume bottle, coffee table and books and an impressive coloured glass collection of over 500 pieces. "I have Scandinavian glass pieces, as well as things from Italy and England, but I try to stick to buying these from local second hand shops and markets as they're too fragile to travel with," she explains.
Buying trips require Eva to spend three months of the year in London, Paris and New York. "When in London I head to Potobello Road and buy white or cream lace, doily-type tablecloths and placemats to add a French feel,' she says. And Eva loves to add to her cushion collection. "I love ethnic cushions and have some from Turkey, Afghanistan and Africa."

WHAT SHE LOVES
"My walk-in wardrobe is my favouite room in the house," Eva says, referring to the second of three bedrooms which is home to her - mainly designer - clothes, shoes and accessories. "It's every girl's fantasy - thre are lots of shoes and lots of bags - and is where I spend many hours playing dress-ups," she explains.
Her favourite pieces are the artworks that decorate the walls. "Most are by my dad, who's an artist," she says. "They show different periods in his life; some were done when he was 16."

WHAT WE LOVE
Eva's diverse style - Victorian and Edwardian furniture can be found alongside oriental-inspired figurines. We also love the deco-style mirrors.
"My house is a mish-mash of different periods, different cultures, different everything - but I've put it all together and it works for me!"
The open-plan layout and light-filled surrounds combine to create a relaxed ambience. The north facing position of the house is complimented by several sky-lights which help to create a beach house feel. "Even when it's raining or a misable day, you don't have to switch the lights on; there's light streaming in from every room and every angle," Eva says.
