HARPERS BAZAAR September 2007
Front-row confidential
The influential international buyers share with us their hit list for the new season. Yes, buy, buy.
PARLOUR X, SYDNEY Buyer/owner: Eva Galambos
What are your favourite catwalk collections?
“Junya Watanabe – I loved the take on ‘biker chic’ – mixing fabrics such as leather and sheer floral georgettes and lots of zippers and sharp edges, all while still being very feminine.”
Any new label discoveries?
“Charles Anastase and Sharon Wauchob. Anastase is a talented creative, who dabbles in music, illustration and interior and furniture design. At the moment he appears to be in a ‘fashion’ phase, and is currently based in London but is showing out of Paris. His garments are beautifully made and his finish is reminiscent of an old world quality. For Autumn/winter 2007-2008, he concentrated on coats and dresses only. Sharon Wauchob’s (who was a former in-house designer for Louis Vuitton when Marc Jacobs arrived in 1997) signature look is effortless chic, lots of layering and mainly black silhouettes. It’s feminine and hard-edged all at the same time, very Parisian and very, very cool. Her tailoring is of the highest quality. Others are starting to catch on to Wauchob’s designs.”
What’s flying out the door at the moment?
“Comme des Garcons, Anna Sui and Acne Jeans.”
What should every woman buy this season and why is it a wardrobe essen tial?
“Trousers, which are slowly replacing the jeans phenomenon. They’re sexy and chic for day or evening, paired with T-shits, tank tops, voluminous blouses or shirts with detailing.”
What items are you putting at the back of your wardrobe for a style comeback later on?
“I can’t think of anything specific because if I love a particular piece now, I really can’t imagine not loving it in the future. Maybe shoes with a pointy toe?” Katrina Israel.
