"Daily Telegraph - Wardrobe mistress - 2002"

Eva Galambos, owner of hip Paddington store Parlour X, cant help but comment on a bold striped top by British label Future Classics being popped in a bag for a customer.

"Ive got one of those too" Eva (pictured centre) says.In fact, she's got quite a few little pieces hanging in store also in her own very generous wardrobe. And that's part of the appeal of Parlour X.It is one of a few stores where the style of the person serving - who may also be the owner, manager or designer - is the main attraction.......

Eva says she's been asked "where did you buy that" for years, before opening up her own store two years ago. Originally she had the idea of gathering stylish and individual labels from Europe and Australia for a very specific client. Then she realised the best model for her target market was her very own style.

This style was nurtured in Sydney as a teenager, where she trawled through piles of second hand goods to find the best pieces she could customise. "I developed my own style and wanted to be involved in the art world, to be a curator" says Eva. So she worked in retail to get her through her studies and then found the industry was just for her.

A move to London led her to a whole new wardrobe and she has carried elements of it in her store. "London is so diverse, its a place where you can team elegant sophistication with truly edgy pieces" she says.So in her shop today there are leading British label like Vivienne Westwood and Preen sitting comfortably alongside Australian names such as Akira and Camilla and Marc. And she's found a niche that lets her combine a fashion obsession with a good little business.

"I love dressing up" says Eva. "I look at the weather and think of my mood. If im feeling fun it will be a mini-skirt and boots. I like being a human clothes horse, a dolly."
