HOW TO: pack like a jetsetter Eva Galambos, owner of Sydney boutique Parlour X, shares her top 10 travelling tips
- dress for less. Rather than packing different outfits for every occasion, take one little black dress and plenty of scarves (which can also be worn as belts). That way you’ll have lots of looks, but less luggage. Pucci scarf $295, and Coven dress $675, from Parlour X.
- fill every nook. Roll up socks and scarves and tuck them into the toes of shoes and boots – this will maintain their shape as well as saving on space.
- brighten your bag. Make your suitcase stand out on the carousel by attaching a brightly coloured ribbon to the handle.
- keep cosy. Planes can be chilly, so I always take a pair of cute Japanese “shoe socks”, which have plastic soles.
- get herbal help. I recently discovered the herbal remedy arnica for jet lag. I take a few pills before flying, then every few hours after landing.
- separate your stuff. Put cosmetics and toiletries in plastic zip-lock bags so they don’t spill everywhere, and keep necklaces and earrings tangle-free in a lightweight jewellery box. Vivienne Westwood make-up case, $285, from Parlour X.
- be rain ready. You never know what weather you’ll be up against, so take a compact umbrella and raincoat.
- sweeten your space. Add your own personal touches to make your hotel room more welcoming. I always buy fresh flowers and bring a scented candle. Flowers from a selection at Grandflora; Diptyque Baies candle, $80 from Studio Imports.
- tune in Whether you’re waiting for trains or taxis, or just sitting on a plane, music is essential. Apple ipod nano, from $219.
- carry creature comforts. I always take Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, $34, wherever I go.
