British designer Alexander McQueen began life in the fashion industry at the age of 16 when he was offered an apprenticeship at the traditional Saville Row tailors, Anderson and Shephard. In 1994 he completed a Masters degree in Fashion Design, at Central St. Martins and has since become one of the most famous and respected international fashion designers in the world described by many as an avant-garde genius. Tragically Lee McQueen took his own life on 11 February 2010. He will be remembered as one of Britain’s most lauded fashion designers, for bringing drama and extravagance to the catwalk, as well as controversy and shock tactics which earnt him the title ‘L’enfant terribel’.
